The Hon. Mark Furner, Minister for Agricultural Development and Fisheries made the trip to Hervey Bay on Sunday 12th August to open the 20th Hervey Bay Seafood Festival – and to officially launch the Wide Bay Wild Catch promotional brand.

The Fisherman’s Kitchen seafood cookery marquee was filled to capacity with seafood lovers and the ‘kitchen ‘ themed with the newest seafood branding and displays of the local wild catch species was filled to capacity with seafood lovers. Other guests included MP’s (both the State and Federal).

The festival was attended by over eight thousand locals and visitors from all States, giving Wide Bay Wild Catch a wide lens launch –  and coverage by local television and ABC Wide Bay broadcasting from the festival certainly let seafood consumers know that the fine quality local catch is available and  readily identifiable – now with a unique logo to seek out our local fishermen’s products.

The inaugural Wide Bay Wild Catch Pavilion captured the essence of the brand with commercial fishers from Bundaberg to Tin Can Bay, seafood wholesalers and processing factories (Urangan Fisheries, Boat Harbour Fisheries, Aust Ocean King Prawn Company/Hervey Bay Cold Stores promoting their products sourced from the Wide Bay waters. The pavilion also included processing and cooking demonstrations.

Certainly, regional brands are common in the competitive food world and well-known brands in places as Tasmania and Eyre Peninsula drive tourism and demand for the local product. Wide Bay Wild Catch point of difference is that it is industry driven and has been developed to deliver greater benefits to industry and connect directly with the consumer.

Spreading the news about the local catch is a  range of decals to define a Wide Bay Wild Catch businesses and supporters along with a  monthly newsletter and the online shop at www.widebaywildcatch.org.

We are urging  the businesses of the Wide Bay seafood industry  to come on board and take up a subscription and grow the community benefits that can flow throughout the Wide Bay and too bring greater security to you own  business.
